Smoked Mozzarella Steak Panini

ingredients

Garlic Spread

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 3 cloves garlic

Caramelized Onions:

  • 1 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Pinch of salt

Panini:

  • Steak, cooked to your preference and thinly sliced
    • Liuzzi smoked mozzarella, sliced
    • Caramelized onions (from the recipe above)
    • Garlic spread (from the recipe above)
    • Fresh arugula
    • Bread of your choice (ciabatta or baguette works great)

Garlic Spread:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Wrap the garlic cloves in aluminum foil and roast them in the oven for 20 minutes or until they are soft and golden.
  • Once roasted, mash the garlic cloves in a small bowl.
  • Mix the mashed garlic with the mayonnaise.
  • Add black pepper to taste and mix well. Set aside.

Caramelized Onions:

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt.
  3. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 20-30 minutes. If desired, add the sugar halfway through cooking to enhance the caramelization.
  4. Remove from heat and set aside.

Panini:

  • Preheat your panini press or a grill pan over medium heat.
  • Slice your bread and spread a generous layer of the garlic spread on each slice.
  • Layer the bottom slice with thinly sliced steak, Liuzzi smoked mozzarella, and caramelized onions.
  • Add a handful of fresh arugula on top.
  • Place the top slice of bread on the sandwich.
  • Grill the panini in the panini press or grill pan until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove from the grill, slice in half, and serve immediately.
