instructions
Garlic Spread:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Wrap the garlic cloves in aluminum foil and roast them in the oven for 20 minutes or until they are soft and golden.
Once roasted, mash the garlic cloves in a small bowl.
Mix the mashed garlic with the mayonnaise.
Add black pepper to taste and mix well. Set aside.
Caramelized Onions:
Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt.
Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 20-30 minutes. If desired, add the sugar halfway through cooking to enhance the caramelization.
Remove from heat and set aside.
Panini:
Preheat your panini press or a grill pan over medium heat.
Slice your bread and spread a generous layer of the garlic spread on each slice.
Layer the bottom slice with thinly sliced steak, Liuzzi smoked mozzarella, and caramelized onions.
Add a handful of fresh arugula on top.
Place the top slice of bread on the sandwich.
Grill the panini in the panini press or grill pan until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
Remove from the grill, slice in half, and serve immediately.
